How much does an Ives 8400 kick plate cost?
Protection plates price by size, so this page asks for a height and a width before it can price one, plus the finish. Is the 8400 a kick plate, a mop plate or an armor plate?
All of them — the 8400 is the protection plate model code, and the size decides which plate it is. The catalog prints kick plates as protecting the bottom of the push side of doors subject to scuffing from foot traffic (8"-24" high, 22"-48" wide), mop plates the bottom of the pull side of doors subject to cleaning and mopping (4"-6" high), stretcher plates the areas of consistent contact from stretchers, service carts or other equipment (6"-8" high) and armor plates the lower half of doors abused by hard carts, trucks and rough usage (26"-48" high).
What is an Ives 8400 plate made of?
The material substrate row prints the plates as available in .050" thick brass, stainless steel or aluminum, and in 1/8" thick high impact polyethylene in clear or black — specifically aluminum 5005 Series, brass C26800 Series, stainless steel 300 Series, and plastic.
Does the finish limit how big an 8400 plate can be?
Yes — the Finishes table prints a maximum size against every one of its fifteen rows, and here they all are. Six go to 48" x 48": 625 bright chrome, 628 satin aluminum, 629 bright stainless steel, 630 satin stainless steel and the two plastic finishes, CLR clear and P-BLK black. Six stop at 24" x 48": 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 612 satin bronze, 619 satin nickel, 695 dark bronze powder coat and BLK matte black. 613 oil rubbed bronze prints 36" x 46", and 626 satin chrome prints 30" x 36". The fifteenth row is 654 satin stainless steel at 48" x 48", printed with the same description, substrate and maximum size as the 630 row above it — and it is the one row this page cannot order, because the finish picker carries the other fourteen codes and no 654.
Are mounting screws included with an 8400?
Yes. The standard mounting package is 16 per pack of #6 x 5/8 oval head screws, with an optional Tek/Torx package specified as TK-TX — #6 x 5/8 self-drilling, self-tapping screws and #6 x 5/8 Torx screws. The page also prints how many packs a plate needs: one covers any plate up to 16" high at every printed width, while a 41"-48" high plate takes two at every width.
What ordering options does the 8400 have?
All plates, metal and plastic, come standard with four beveled edges and countersunk mounting holes (B-CS). The page adds B-NH for no mounting holes and B-NHA for no mounting holes with adhesive, plus ERS for a plate prepped with an extra row of screws. Read the B-NH line whole before ordering it: the page prints it as not available on the 8402, and available only with US32D, US32, US3, US4, US28, CLR and P-BLK — that is BHMA 630, 629, 605, 606, 628, CLR and P-BLK, seven of the fifteen rows in the Finishes table. B-NHA is printed as not available on the 8402 too, but carries no finish list. Special cut-outs are available as an engineering special, consult customer service. A gasket tape kit (8401) is recommended when using a brass plate on a metal door, to reduce tarnishing from electrolytic oxidation.
What is the difference between the Ives 8400 and the 8402?
They share a single catalog page, titled 8400/8402, and the 8402 is the UL model. The page's feature list gives it one bullet, printed as: "For 8402 UL plates, UL mark appears in upper left corner. Not available on plastic protection plates (special cutouts are not allowed on UL kick plates)." Separately, in the Options block, the B-NH and B-NHA no-hole options are both printed as not available on the 8402. The page's certifications read "Meets ANSI/BHMA A156.6 for J301" and "UL protection plates certified to UL10C".
